A Quick Rundown of My Favorite Bars in Chapel Hill
Goodfellows
Goodfellows is a small wood paneled basement turned into a bar. This doesn’t sound appealing, but you will be proven wrong after your first visit. The Goodfellows experience begins when you set out to have a low-key night, yet end up not remembering being there. Half-off Pickle back shots on Sundays and Karaoke Tuesdays are always a guaranteed good time. They also have bowls of Old Bay popcorn to help soak up the Jameson.
La Residence (La Rez)
You’ll get a flavor of every student at Chapel Hill, as people from different corners of campus go to La Rez. The bar has a really cool ambiance, with colorful lights and bumping music. Most nights, there is even a DJ. It is an interesting combination of elegance and the classic college rowdiness. Drink Recommendations: Tar Heel Shooters and Pinot Pounders on Tuesdays.
Pantana Bobs (Bobs)
Bob’s is a sports bar full of golf shirts and wide leg khakis (frat boys if you didn’t catch the reference). The bar is always stocked with ice-cold Bud Lights and is awesome place to watch a game. My favorite thing to do is sit outside on Bob’s deck on a nice Saturday afternoon and drink a pitcher. I definitely frequent this bar the most.
He’s Not Here (He’s Not)
He’s Not is Chapel Hill’s staple bar. Going here is something you must cross off your Chapel Hill bucket list. This indoor/outdoor bar is a great place to take parents or four legged friends. I love coming here after class on a Wednesday to grab a blue cup and a complimentary pint glass.
The Franklin Hotel Bar
Since the Franklin Hotel rebranded their bar, this spot has really become a popular go-to for my friends and me. It is the perfect place for a beautifully made and tasty cocktail. The Zombie, which comes in a parrot shaped glass, is a crowd favorite. Be careful with these bad boys! They contain Absinthe (limit 2 per customer). It closes at midnight so be sure to stop by for your next pregame.
The Carolina Inn
CLASSSY ASSY GIVE ME A GLASSY! The Carolina Inn is the perfect example for why UNC is called a wine and cheese school. The bar serves really yummy food (I recommend the fried shrimp) and fancy cocktails. It is a great place to sit outside by the fire and be waited on. Be sure you come with a thick wallet because the bill here can definitely add up!
